Legislative Advocacy Group

Members of the Hatch & Parent Legislative Advocacy Group have served as special counsel and lobbyists to numerous private sector clients, cities and special districts. As a result, we have a thorough understanding of the agency and legislative processes at local and state level as well as a unique perspective on how public and private interests can achieve their objectives in a challenging California environment. As a result of our firm's engagement in law and policy issues, and our working relationships with key legislators, we are able to anticipate and help plan for local and statewide directions and trends that may affect your business interests.

We provide a broad range of integrated services within the firm. Depending upon the nature and scope of the issue, we have the ability to add other lawyers and lobbyists as part of a team effort to include financial, public affairs, grass roots and other areas of expertise. We strive to build coalitions for success working with the diverse array of interest groups involved in California law and policy issues.

Hatch & Parent will tailor its legislative advocacy services to best meet your needs, with options ranging from simply monitoring and reporting on the legislative process and particular issues of interest during the legislative session, to drafting and advocating for the passage of legislation or working to defeat or modify legislation that is not in your best interests. We have a long track record of working with the key legislators who are most active on important issues and building coalitions needed to succeed in today's complex world.

Hatch & Parent currently represents public and private entities and associations in Sacramento, working to protect and advocating for programs and approaches that protect and support our clients' interests. By way of example, we have:

  • Protected a regulated utility and its ratepayers against unwarranted rate increases;
  • Assisted a company to transfer its assets to a community services district without tax consequences;
  • Helped a City protect its water rights by introducing legislation to ensure compliance with federal law;
  • Represented a non-profit association on a wide range of legislative matters pertaining to groundwater contamination, protection and development; and
  • Helped clients secure funding for local water supply development programs.
